The Hermitage

After 300 years of service as a home for the elderly, the building has been home to the dependance of the world-famous Russian Hermitage since 2009. Throughout the year you can view a beautiful changing collection directly from the collection in Russia. All this in one of the most beautiful locations of Amsterdam next to the Amstel river.

History

As already described above, the property has been the function of retirement home in Amsterdam for more than 300 years. In 2007, the last elderly left the building. Because the building was no longer up to date, the concierge handed the building over to the City of Amsterdam, which renovated it for 2 years. In 2009, the Hermitage became one of the city's most visited museums ever since.

Russian art

The Hermitage in Saint Petersburg is the supplier of art in the Hermitage of Amsterdam. With an assortment of more than 3 million pieces, they decided in Russia to make more art visible, however the museum in Russia was full and opened up more dependances in other parts of the world. The largest of these is in Amsterdam. Several times a year a new exhibition is opened. Among other things, you will find jewellery, paintings and furniture.

Disabled

For people with reduced mobility, the Hermitage is fully accessible. With a wheelchair, all rooms and facilities are accessible. There is a lift and there are several disabled toilets. Outside there are 2 disabled parking spaces available directly at the property. Assistants dogs are also welcome in the museum on a leash.
