Jewish Historical Museum

If you want to learn more about Jewish history in Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands, the Jewish Historical Museum is highly recommended. The museum is located close to the Waterlooplein and spread over four synagogues, all of which are close to each other. The museum takes you through time with posters, art and visual material. You will learn how Jews have experienced history, the hard time they had and still have, but also a bit of acceptance of their faith.

Guided tours

The museum has a number of regular tours in the program. This is a fun and instructive way to get a lot of extra information or the sights in the museum in a short time. For example, a guided tour is “Highlights in the Jewish Historical Museum” where you will be taken along the masterpieces and get a clear explanation about this. Guided tours of temporary exhibitions and the children's museum are also provided. There are also city walks organized, exploring the neighbourhood under supervision is very nice!

Children's Museum

When children go to a museum it is sometimes difficult to keep their attention, there is no question in the Jewish Historical Museum. In a separate part of the museum, children can learn about the Jews and the culture behind them in a fun, playful and interactive way. Walk through the home of Familie Hollander and listen to what Mats de Matze has to say. There are also special events for children, which can be viewed on the museum's website.

Accessibility

The Jewish Historical Museum is located at the Waterlooplein. This is a very easily accessible location right in the busy centre of Amsterdam. There is a metro stop, tram stops and bus stops a few minutes away from the museum. If you want to come by car, you can easily park in the parking garage under the Waterlooplein.

The museum is easy to visit for people with reduced mobility. There are all kinds of facilities for a nice visit to the museum.
