Taxi

A quick way to get around Amsterdam is by taxi. There are a number of official taxi companies in Amsterdam and these are also the only taxis that are allowed to drive around the city. These taxis are affiliated with Authorised Taxi Organisations (TTO) and are clearly recognizable by the TTO logo on the light box of the taxi. There are several places in the city where the pitches of these taxis are, a map of which can be found here http://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren-verkeer/taxi/kaart. Of course these can be found in all busy and touristic places, for example Leidseplein, Munt, Dam, etc...

Rules

When a taxi is affiliated with the TTO, he or she must adhere to a number of strict conditions. For example, this includes:

  • Driving according to a meter that should always be clearly visible.
  • Get a receipt of the trip with clearly the information about the trip. If you want to file a complaint for any reason, you have all the details on this receipt.
  • The driver takes the shortest route to the destination. You can assume that every taxi driver in Amsterdam knows the city well enough and that they also take the fastest route.
  • You can't be denied on a short ride.

Prices

The prices used by the TTO taxis are fixed. They should therefore be no waiver under any circumstances. The price of a trip consists of three parts; a starting fare, a mileage price and an amount per minute.
Below are the correct amounts:

  • Starting rate - €3,19
  • Kilometre rate - €2,35
  • Rate per minute - €0,39

In addition, there is a fare if you want the taxi to wait for you, this waiting rate is €43.94 per hour.

Taxicentrals

If you want to call a taxi, it's best to take a look at the companies that are covered by the TTO. An up-to-date list can be found at https://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeren-verkeer/taxi/toegelaten-taxis/.
