Corona/Covid 19 measures in Amsterdam

In this blog we will keep you up to date on the latest information regarding the rules of coronavirus in Amsterdam. Like many other major cities in the world, Amsterdam is also a city where coronavirus is very active. It is currently the place with the highest number of infections in the Netherlands.

The rules around corona change regularly, on this page we keep these for you so that you are always up to date.

Note: these are the rules that apply to everyone everywhere. There may be additional measures set by sights, activities and museums. It is always a good idea to look at the site's website for the coronare rules that apply there. There is also often a time slot on which your ticket is valid and you can enter.

Measures currently in force

The current measures for Amsterdam are:

  • Always keep a distance of 1.5 metres from each other

  • Cough and sneeze on the inside of your elbow. If you use tissues, only use paper ones and throw them away immediately after use.

  • Try to wash / disinfect your hands as much as possible

  • Dust masks are generally not compulsory in shops, restaurants and other public places. These are places where the 1.5 metre distance is quite possible. In places where this is not possible, the mouth mask remains compulsory. Think for example of public transport. Of course, you are free to continue to wear the mouth mask if you wish and feel more comfortable doing so.

  • All shops are open again

  • There is no maximum number of visitors at home as long as you keep to the 1.5 metre distance rule.

  • The catering industry is open again. Terraces and restaurant are fully operational again. Reservations are still required and 1.5 metres distance is also required.

  • Hotels are open and you can also eat and drink in the restaurant.

  • There is no longer a maximum group size for outside. However, a distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained.

  • All public areas are open again. You can visit the museum, swimming pool, sauna, etc... Please note that in some places reservations are still required and that time slots are used.
