Amsterdam in Corona time

These are strange times all over the world at the moment. The virus holds us all in its grip and we are limited in our freedom on all sides. Amsterdam has the highest number of infections in the Netherlands and you can see that in daily life. We take you into a story about corona in Amsterdam.

The beginning

Corona turned up in the Netherlands in March. It started in the south and it really took a while before it reached Amsterdam. As in many other places, it started in Amsterdam with washing hands and keeping a distance of 1.5 meters. When the number of infections and hospital admissions got out of hand, a complete lockdown was introduced in the Netherlands, closing down all schools, shops, the cultural sector, many businesses and many more branches. Amsterdam has never been so quiet on the streets. There were no more tourists to be seen, the people of Amsterdam only came out to do their shopping and public transport stopped running. It was quiet, scary quiet without any positive prospects.

In between

At one point it seemed that we, as a country, and certainly Amsterdam, were doing well. We got the curve down together. Promising and a number of shops and public transport slowly and carefully opened their doors again. In spite of a little positivity, it was still bad for the cultural sector, for example; they were not allowed to open because not many people were allowed to come together in one room. A few more tourists came to the city, hotels rented out rooms again and restaurants and shops became positive again. Unfortunately for a short time.

Where we are now

At the moment the weather is bad. The number of positive coronate tests is increasing rapidly, which unfortunately means that strict measures have again proved necessary. Amsterdam is in a "red" area, which severely hinders tourists from visiting the city. Within a maximum of 30 people, taking into account the 1.5 meter distance, it turns out to be difficult to organize catering and events. The city is upside down again and we have no idea for how long.

It is still fun in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is still a super fun city! Keep coming with all the corona rules in mind. The tranquillity of the city and museums makes it extra attractive to visit. When you reserve tickets through the websites with a clear time lock, there is nothing wrong. Wear a mouth shield as much as possible, which is an urgent advice at the moment and in many museums it is even mandatory. Don't forget to enjoy this beautiful city, the canals, narrow streets and sweet people.
